Great Central Railway in January
3rd January 2009

My first trip out to the GCR this year. Full dull AGAIN.

The colour/processing on these shots may look a bit different. I'm using new software for the first time and although some look fine I may revisit this collection and re-process them once I master the software. Some of these shots have already been done 2 or 3 times already.

Thanks to Mike again for transport.

On arrival 70048 had just begun its move away from the shed area. 78019 was also being prepared. A Standard day then!

Frost was everywhere with temperatures well below freezing. The fire was alight to avoid the water column bag from freezing up.

A drive to Kinchley Lane was called for and a spot of lunch courtesy of Mike's wife - Thanks.... D5401 and D123 pass through light engine. I was convinced 78019 had been failed and one diesel was to be the train engine while the other was to rescue the steam loco. WRONG! it was a Diesel Dalex. WRONG AGAIN!!!... With thanks to Driver John Pepper who dropped me a note this move was a test run for the Class 27 as it hadn't run for 15 months. The Peak was there - just in case!

A welcome fire was roaring in the NAAFI. Recomended on a cold winters day. If you can't read the writing then I must explain it was written with a blurred piece of chalk. Work that one out?
