4965 & 5690 ex Tyseley - 5690 to Cardiff
25th March 2006

The unusual site of the GWR v LMS push me - pull you heading through Small Heath early on Saturday morning prompted me to drag myself out of bed at 6am. After reversal at Washwood Heath 5690 Leander departed heading west through the Birmingham suburbs. I drove over to the Lickey incline later to witness the spectacle of Leander storming up the hill.... Finally you can HEAR the awesome sound of Leander storming the 1/37 Lickey incline at this website. http://www.steamsounds.org.uk/0603.html

If it wasn't for the red light and drifting smoke this would have made an excellent shot

1600ASA setting 1/8sec @ f5.6. Weather - Wet wet wet...The train had been delayed significantly at Worcester resulting in near dark conditions on the Lickey incline. Driver Ray Poole ran at the bank without assistance and the sound was simply AWESOME!
